Our first day of employment at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina! What a great place it has been already. We both love what we're doing. The kids are just great to work with and we feel so blessed.
Devin travled most of the summer with "His Instrument" from IWU. They had great adventures together - but since he was gone, he got out of helping us move, unpacking boxes and the stress of it all! Way to go Dev! Great plan! However, that meant that he got to come to SC and see his new home, all unpacked and welcoming him with clean sheets and tidy closets! They traveled mostly in the north and of course Devin got to visit places he had never been before -p Mt. Rushmore for one! That's a sweet deal!

We went to Brevard, NC and visited our great friends, The Blackburns. They graciously hosted us to a water falls tour and scenic mountain view tour twice this summer!
Just an amazing view of the Blue Ridge Mountains!
Aw, yes! Cooks in the kitchen, stirring up one of the Hopeman's specialty dishes - Chicken and Curry.
Devin had fun playing his mandolin while home. He was also introduced to one of the University Singers who is a great mandolin player. That was inspiring for sure! Blue Grass music just does something to us all - makes some of us want to play and some of us want to dance!
After the mountains, it was onto Myrtle Beach - the place that we have taken beach vacations since I was a little girl. Now, my parents own an incredible beach house that our entire family gets to enjoy. This wasn't the sunniest day of the beach vacation, but that didn't stop the kids from playing ... big and little! Whatever reservations Presley may have had with Devin were non-existent while on the beach. He was her ticket to a great deal of fun!

You can't keep this little critter out of the water. She doesn't mind the rough waves, the cool water or the sand that ends up in your tail feathers!

Mother is just standing in the midst of the crowd. You can see how happy she is. It was such a fun day for all of us ... but especially her.
This is on the steps of the First Church Of God in Irvine, Kentucky where my grandparents used to go. They loved this church and I loved it too. It was my summer church and I got to know all the people here very well. I had many friends here and used to sing just about every Sunday I was there in the summer. Notably a church who affirmed me and my musical gifts as well as a person. 
This was taken through the glass, so that's why it's not clear. However, the inside looks very much the same. Except there was no padding on the pews when I went there. What a great trip we had!

The beautiful Main Street of Richmond, Kentucky - my birthplace and Mother's hometown - well sort of. She lived in Waco.

This swing was on the sidewalk in Richmond for by passers. Fun, eh? It's the small town thing you wouldn't find in the big city.
It's just a really neat town to walk around in.
Most of the shops had these pretty window boxes in front.
Now this is one shop I would have loved to go. The pottery, although not Bybee pottery, was absolutely gorgeous. They were so unique in color and shape.
And our last big stop in Kentucky was Frisches Big Boy Retaraunt. Mother always loved their burgers here.

The kitchen area with our new table and chairs. Yes, the light is not centered. My Dad is going to take care of that at his next visit.
A little more cleaned up than before. The red ball lamp is in the front window where my Grandmother always had it. I love it when the neighbors ask what the red light is all about! I think they're always a little afraid of the new people in the neighborhood with the red light in the window!
